For what purpose?

I’ve struggled a long time with this blog. I’ve had some sort of blog for a loooong time. I had a blog that I have saved because it was my outlet through some of the hardest years of my life. To me it was very helpful, so now it just seems like I should have one – but for what purpose? There are industry blogs about career type stuff, blogs about gossip, music, beauty, dogs, parenting, weight loss – you name it. I’ve thought about this over and over again. Blogging can sometimes be rather arrogant. Who am I to think someone would actually want to read my thoughts? The other hindrance of this blog has been because of the fear of “unwanted” people finding it – which again – why have a blog if others aren’t supposed to read it?

So I could re-purpose this blog to something I’m passionate about…shaping and impacting children’s lives – now that would get kinda creepy and I could turn into some pedophile-type stalking children or a complete unexperienced early-20s girl trying to give unsolicited parenting advice. ‘No go’ on that one. I already know that I don’t want to write anything related to work. I spend enough time with excel, marketing strategies and communication issues at work. I don’t have a family to speak of to blog about. I do have a dog, but let’s face it – Pepper can only do so many cute things before he just starts doing them again.

Then I asked myself – what am I good at? what do I struggle with? what have a learned? I understand that most people have learned the same lessons that I have, but what my experiences make me unique and give me a purpose.

I think back to things that made my previous blogs intriguing and compelling to read, and I’m reminded of times when I wrote about what I had learned or what I had experienced in an engaging way. In my naivety, I was actually somewhat insightful. So here’s to a fresh start, and sharing a lifetime of lessons. My only disclaimer is that I’ll never claim that I’m the only one to experience or learn the lessons about which I write. I’ll just share how I learned them and hopefully someone else will enjoy or atleast laugh at my embarrassment.

To start things off on this fresh start, I begin with this.

I’ve changed alot since the beginning of the year – Physically and mentally. It hasn’t quite turned into the year that I had planned. Sometimes I think God laughs when we make plans. Anyways, my New year’s resolution for the year was to get in shape. I joined a gym, eat healthy, and exercise regularly. 3 months in, I’m very happy with my results. I’ll be Mexico ready in no time! God has recently given me a reason for a fresh start even though I didn’t really want it. Through the pain, heartache, encouragement, and love, I’ve been reminded once again that I am strong. That sounds so cheesy, but it’s such a great reminder. There are few things that a girl truly needs in life – her mom and her best friend are probably the 2 most important. When you lose 1 or both, it’s great to be reminded of your inner strength and that God never leaves you – even though you always knew it.

This is year 24 for me. One of my favorite songs is “24″ by Switchfoot and it seems only fitting for this next phase. Sometimes people buckle under pain and struggles, not me. “I’m not copping out.” I’m definitely excited about this new chapter of life that God is unfolding for me.

Road trip to Tennessee

No, she’s not Pepper! But, she’s a Pepper look-alike AND her name is Cassie!!!

Coincidence? I think not.

Anyways she’s at a shelter in Tennessee, so if you know anyone up there.

2008 has gotten off to a pretty good start – So without getting into all the details here are a few numbers for ya.

A longtime friend just had 1 baby girl this week.
Started the year attending 2 weddings.
I have lost 3 of something – which is a great thing.
This is week # 4 of New Year’s Resolutions, and I’m still going strong.
My best friend gets married in the 5th month of this year.
I have lost 6 of something else – which is a great thing too.
This year is number 7 with the boyfriend
There are 8 months til my birthday.
Pepper and I are in our 9th month together.

I think the biggest success so far of the year is a mindset change. I’ve learned you have to take care of yourself in order to effectively help others. My goal is not selfishness because theres enough of that in the world. It’s just to take care of my self – spiritually, physically, and emotionally, and then I know God will be able to use me even more.

So that’s probably the deepest thing that I’ve written here in a while which is ok – this blog was beginning to sound like a Sesame Street Episode.

Here’s my stereotypical end of year blog.

Loved even more

These occurred much like most years, only this year there weren’t huge outstanding events in which these things happened. (not saying that’s a bad thing.)

I’m ready for this next year. I’ve got things in the works. We’ll just see if I’m able to make them happen.
